Tolchester Beach Museum

This wonderful small museum is the creation of curator Bill Betts, who has devoted years of study to the Tolchester Amusement Park.

From 1887 until it closed in 1962, the Tolchester Amusement Park was located in Kent County just north of Rock Hall. It was a summer destination for thousands of family outings, mostly by steamboat from Baltimore and other places on the Western shore. An escape from the city heat, a place to swim and picnic, and of course, there were the rides!

Bill Betts assembled a personal collection of Tolchester artifacts and memorabilia second to none. Under the auspices of The Mainstay this collection is now housed in a building in Oyster Court, located just behind The Mainstay, and is open to the public. Admission is free.

To date, over 11,000 visitors have signed the guest book, many recalling their own childhood experiences at Tolchester in a bygone era.
